Last year, Park Chul Hong celebrated two decades in the cosmetics industry, with ambitious goals for Dr Gloderm, his company specialising in medical cosmetics.

His beauty prescription is a cream-in-a-pill-shape called TabRX (Tablex), which might be the next big thing from South Korea's cosmetics industry, which previously popularised BB cream, cushion compact, snail cream and sleeping masks in the global market.

"Founded in 2016, the company is named from blending two words, global and dermatologist. After Asia, we will introduce TabRX to the European and US markets in order to truly establish Dr Gloderm as a global brand," said Park, the CEO, who launched the pill cream in Thailand last month, at Bangkok Airways Blue Ribbon Screens, Paragon Cineplex.

The launch event also introduced their brand ambassador, Big Bang's Seungri, who's also a shareholder in the Seoul-based firm.

The dashing K-pop star expressed his trust and confidence in the enterprising Park, whose experience, along with the team of dermatologists involved in R&D, will bring about high-performance medical cosmetics.

With a background in chemistry, Park has passionately been formulating cosmetics since 1997, and his experience includes working as a technical director for a laboratory in Switzerland for three years.

"I want to help people look good and feel good about themselves, and having healthy skin is the basis of self-confidence," he said of his calling.

Park additionally studied medicine that had him joining the circle of doctors, and later was instrumental in setting up the Seoul Cosmetics Association of Dermatologists.

Initially, Dr Gloderm's product-development involved 54 dermatologists, who are also business partners, with this number highlighted in the product packaging.

"The number of dermatologists is now 68, and under the Seoul Cosmetics Association of Dermatologists, we research on cosmetics efficacy and safety. This is the strength of Dr Gloderm in offering clinically proven skincare," he said. "Concentrated with active ingredients, the TabRX is like a prescription. The recommended dose is two beads for each application. With the right dose, we can get the right effect."

The patented production technology requires cooling of a concentrated liquid-emulsion at 0C or below to obtain the TabRX skincare beads, which maintain their shape at room temperature.

The TabRX creams share celtosome, a concentrated powder of sea-plant cells obtained via freeze-drying.

Active ingredients then differ in each formula, with the anti-ageing cream containing marine collagen and argireline, the whitening cream featuring pearl protein and glutathione, and the moisturising cream with hyaluronic acid and a hydrogel obtained by fermenting marine plants.

Exclusively retailed at Watsons stores, the Dr Gloderm range includes four types of Infusion Masks to complement the TabRX creams.

"Out in the sunlight and then inside an air-conditioned room, Thais can get dehydrated and dull skin. Including a sheet mask in the daily beauty routine will help revitalise the skin," he said.
