Signal Mountain will welcome a new 'the American Legion Post,' and that post will carry the name of Captain Larry Taylor.

Captain Taylor was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2023 for combat action in the war in Vietnam in 1968.

We talked to the post commander Thursday.

He told us the new American Legion Post will receive their charter tonight.

They want to make sure that Captain Taylor's legacy lives on for generations to come.

"When they think of American Legion, think of the Signal Mountain, think of Larry Taylor, and understand what he did and what he sacrificed for this country, and what he provided for this community, and how we can continue to carry on that legacy through his name, through the American Legion."

Post Commander Andrew Flor tells us the idea of honoring Captain Taylor came up after speaking with other local veterans and state lawmakers.

Dwight Woodcock. 3rd District Commander for the Department of Tennessee, says...

"We have over 100 posts across the state of Tennessee, and a lot per post over the years have gotten older, and some of them have closed. It's so exciting to open one."

Earlier this month, we told you about a new Captain Taylor exhibit opening at the Coolidge Medal of Honor Heritage Center.

You can find details about that exhibit and about the effort it took to set it up here.
