In 82 games this season, Penguins defenseman Marcus Pettersson had 30 points (four goals, 26 assists).

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Marcus Pettersson has been added to Sweden’s roster for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) World Championship tournament in May.

The addition of Pettersson and Seattle Kraken forward Andre Burakovsky was announced via a release by the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation on Tuesday.

The IIHF World Championship tournament will be staged in Czechia on May 10-26.

Pettersson, 27, has represented Sweden on the international stage multiple times, including previous IIHF World Championship tournaments in 2019 and 2022.

This season, Pettersson appeared in all 82 games for the Penguins, setting career highs for goals (four), assists (26), points (30) and average ice time per contest (22 minutes, 40 seconds).

On Monday, Erik Karlsson, Pettersson’s primary defensive partner this season, was also named to Sweden’s roster.

According to Swedish outlet Expressen, Penguins forward Rickard Rakell declined an offer to join Pettersson and Karlsson on Sweden’s roster because of a shoulder injury.
