In the realm of beauty, eyebrows hold a unique significance, often dubbed as the frame of the face. Their shape, thickness, and arch can dramatically alter one's appearance. Brows have been an integral part of makeup since way before it was made mainstream in the early 2000s by models like Cara Delevinge, Hollywood actresses like Elizabeth Taylor in the 1950s, Audrey Hepburn and Madonna, had a specific way they did their brows. It was only in the 2000s that there was limelight on brows whether it was drawing them on with a pencil or brushing them

out using brow wax to the most current trend of microblading, which allows individuals to have defined, structured brows for a longer duration without much upkeep.

In the recent past, eyebrow procedures have taken on in the beauty industry. Middle-aged women have always struggled with scanty and sparse hair growth on their brows. Such semi-permanent make-up procedures allow for the creation of brows that look incredibly natural, enhancing facial features without appearing overly done or artificial. Perfect-shaped brows emphasise individuality and express emotions.

Different techniques can be customised to the client's needs, fine strokes, pixelated looks or even softly powdered brows. These procedures vary from the client’s age to skin type to cosmetic needs. Microblading has been the biggest game changer in all these procedures. Here, fine hair-like strokes with pigment are filled into the scanty areas of the brows for a very natural and effortless look. For a more structured look, the entire brow area is filled in with such strokes.

The colour of the pigments used plays a vital role in these procedures, colour-matching is integral for achieving a natural blend. The brow artist has to know which colour will heal to match the client’s skin undertone. The colour is mostly matched to the hair/highlights of the individual in question. Someone with very light brows might only need basic shaping and filling and will have an outcome that is extremely natural and soft.

Eyebrow procedures have evolved in the last decade with a variety of techniques and tools to improve the efficacy and accuracy of the treatment. In India, dermatologists used to do permanent tattoos on brows that would last forever, resulting in them fading into blue and green colours- this was not ideal at all.

Today, microblading treatments done by experts allow the pigment to fade gradually and leave no trace behind.

This treatment works best on young to middle-aged skin. With age, skin becomes soft and pores open up. In this case, microblading might not help with fine strokes of this procedure as a result of the strokes blurring out after healing. However, other procedures are semi-permanent treatments that work very well for mature and oily skin.

About the treatment

The procedure is done in two sittings and lasts for anywhere from twelve to eighteen months, depending on the individual’s lifestyle and their skin’s reaction to the pigment. Aftercare for the healing is anywhere from seven to thirty days, which is crucial for the best results.

Dos and Don'ts

-For the first 7 days one must not wet their brows. Large amounts of perspiration caused by intensive workouts should also be avoided for good pigment/colour retention.

-Large amounts of sun intake after the treatment can affect good healing as well.

-Ideally, sunblock creams, facial scrubs/peels/retinol should all be avoided on the brow areas as a rule. These can lead to the pigment healing into grey and green shades.
