La Prairie, the Luxury Swiss Beauty Brand, Launches a New Product Through the Lens of Its Historical Relationship with Modern Art.

This article is more than 4 years old.

The invitation for La Prairie’s recent launch of their new Skin Caviar Eye Lift was sent for an evening and dinner at San Francisco’s DeYoung Museum, a renowned fine art institution centrally located in Golden Gate Park.

Upon arriving at the museum, invited guests of media, influencers, and clients were treated to a private tour of the galleries featuring contemporary American collections.

Surrounded by the cavernous ceilings and open space of the museum’s modern architectural structure, François Le Gloan, President of the Americas for La Prairie, drew the connection of the role that contemporary art has played in the history of the luxury Swiss beauty brand.

“Art has been a source of inspiration from the very inception of the brand. Our minimalist aesthetic, the clean lines and elegant simplicity, is directly influenced by the Bauhaus German art school. La Prairie has always been at the cosmetic’s world forefront for both product formulation and aesthetics, which is a direct illustration of the famed Bauhaus principle: ‘form follows function’.”

La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Collection of products, easily identified by the iconic cobalt blue packaging, a nod to 20th century French American sculptor, Niki de Saint Phalle, is their highest performing collection of products that has consistently seen significant growth.

While Le Gloan is unable to disclose numbers, he marvels that the growth of this collection has been spectacular. “ We have lifelong devotees but also many new clients drawn to the collection by its mystique, its longevity, its-ever avant-garde status.”

Launched in 1987, the Skin Caviar collection became an instant success with its groundbreaking performance for lifting and firming properties. Adding actual caviar to their proprietary Cellular Complex formula, the products would achieve iconic status for the brand, garnering increasing growth since its inception.

“It is fairly easy to make a best seller. It is much more uncommon to create a long seller. Caviar success comes from the loyalty of our clients who – once they’ve tried Caviar – keep coming back as they see the tangible performance of Caviar over time and gravity, ” says Le Gloan.

In maintaining the technical innovation of the collection, La Prairie “re-mastered” their Skin Caviar line last year, updating formulas with supplemental benefits to their original compositions.

Le Gloan explains that while they will be introducing new products into their newly “re-mastered” Skin Caviar collection, it will be strategically considered through the lens of fulfilling an opportunity within the line.

“We are keeping the Skin Caviar collection streamlined, only introducing groundbreaking products to close an essential gap. This is the case with our latest introduction, Skin Caviar Eye Lift.”

Le Gloan describes the eye region as the most vulnerable part of the face, with its 22 muscles and an average of 10,000 blinking motions a day. It’s a fragile area where signs of aging are first displayed by fine lines, the loss of elasticity, and the effects of gravity.

The Skin Caviar Eye Lift is a powerful formula of caviar and their exclusive Cellular Complex formula, separated by two chambers to insure purity. Partnered with their re-mastered Skin Caviar Eye Cream, it vows to tighten the upper lid, diminish puffiness, and reduce crow’s feet.

In unveiling the new eye serum, La Prairie commissioned three female Swiss photographers, graduates of the prestigious Lausanne University of Art and Design Ecal, to create a campaign of women’s faces called, “The Female Gaze,” illustrating the appreciation of beauty and the bond between the luxury Swiss brand and their allegiance to the art community. The black and white photographs debuted at Art Basel last June, and are now touring six North American cities.

“As a luxury house, we believe it is our mission to make our daily life and our world a bit more beautiful, even in a modest and understated way. It is our way to mesh and celebrate beauty, art, emotion and function, all in one,” says Le Gloan.
