The Body Shop beauty chain sold to Brazil's Natura Cosmeticos

Natura Cosmeticos SA, the Brazilian leader in the cosmetics industry, has announced that it had finalized the acquisition of The Body Shop beauty chain from L'Oreal after obtaining the necessary authorizations from the relevant competition authorities, writes LETA.

"With the acquisition of The Body Shop, Natura is taking a further decisive step to constitute a global, multibrand and multichannel cosmetics group that brings together three strong brands - Natura, The Body Shop and Aesop - committed to ethical business practices, sustainability and making a positive social impact," the Brazilian company said in a press release.


The deal worth USD 1.1 billion (EUR 918.9 million) will lead to a group with an expanded footprint with a broad geographic presence in key markets. Combined, the three brands have operations in 69 countries, 18,000 employees, 3,200 stores, with a strong network of franchisees, a sales force of 1.8 million independent sales representatives and an extensive product portfolio covering a broad range of categories.


The Body Shop stores in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia operated on franchises. There are seven stores in Latvia, eight in Lithuania and six in Estonia. The Body Shop brand in the Baltics is represented by Bodybalt company.


Founded in 1969, Natura is a listed company and the leading Brazilian manufacturer of cosmetics and personal care products.


Founded in 1976 in Brighton, England, by Anita Roddick, The Body Shop is a global beauty brand offering high-quality, naturally-inspired skincare, hair care and make-up produced ethically and sustainably. The French beauty company L'Oreal bought The Body Shop brand in 2006 for EUR 940 million.
